Privacy should not depend on what you can pay.

Skudo lets you sign up anywhere without giving away your real email address. Every website gets its own address, and everything reaches the inbox you already use. It is free for everybody and supported by donations.

Why it exists.

Your email address is the most widely shared piece of personal data you have. Every website that receives it can link your accounts, follow your purchases and pass it on, and a single breach exposes it everywhere at once. Protecting it has usually come at a price.

What Skudo does.

Skudo gives every website its own address. Mail sent to it is forwarded to the inbox you already use, and you can reply from the same address, so the real one is never shown.

If a website is breached or starts sending spam, you switch off that one address and nothing else changes.

Why I built it.

It began as a practical problem. Every service I signed up to wanted an email address, and I did not want to give the same one to all of them. So I needed a different address for each, and the number only kept growing. For a while I paid about 45 euro a year for a plan with ten addresses, and ten turned out to be far fewer than the services I actually use.

Then I discovered aliases: one address per website, all forwarding to the inbox you already have. It was exactly the right idea. What I wanted from it was a complete free plan, and a service designed to keep as little as possible about you. So I built it.

Today I use Skudo for every signup I make, government services included. I depend on it the same way you would.

The principle.

Skudo is built on a single principle: pay what you can. Privacy is a right. If you can support the project, you do. If you cannot, you have exactly the same access.

There is one plan and everybody is on it. There are no ads and no paid tier, and donations keep it going.

Why you can trust it.

Skudo is designed to hold as little as possible about you. Your messages pass through and are not kept, and the address an alias forwards to is stored encrypted, so even a copy of the database would not say where anyone’s mail goes.

Everything Skudo does keep is listed, with how long it is kept, in an architecture document anyone can read, alongside the transparency report and the source of the Firefox extension.

The team is one seat.

Help fill the others.

Five seats in a row. The first is filled and carries the initials FS. The other four are empty and dashed: Front-end and design, Security review, Writing and translation, and Community support.

Skudo runs on donations, so I cannot promise a salary.
